Webmin monitor for lighttpd

Added by almost 15 years ago

Hello,

I use webmin (http://www.webmin.com/) to administrate my servers remotely.

To watch the status of the lighttpd server I created a monitor under
Other > System and Server Status > add Check File or Directory that checks for the existence of
/var/run/lighttpd.pid.

This monitor reboots the server if it goes down... but this is a discussable behaviour. See attach for full description.

If you got any other ways of bundling lighty in webmin feel free to share by replying! I'm really interested.
Berteh.

Testing a HTTP request to see if you get a valid response might be a better way.

thanks for the answer, but why would that be a better way?

I would for instance get a valid response if apache is running and not lighttpd...

Lighty could be running but failing to respond to requests for whatever reason
Or maybe all the fcgi handlers are down

Personally Id use both methods in conjunction with each other, if its critical that its up and running
