I think this will never happen. For many years we've heard from developers that all features will be introduced only in the lighty2, and what we have in reality? Stillborn lighty2, which, in my opinion, will never be released and dying excellent workable lighty1.4, that shall die only because of the reluctance to develop it. stbuehler and the others just killed it.
Lighttpd - Feature #2726: Support for HTTP/2 protocolhttps://redmine.lighttpd.net/issues/2726?journal_id=99582016-07-06T16:01:07Zgstrauss

No, it's not done (or even started yet, as far as I know). This bug has been marked as a duplicate of #2813, which is still open. Please follow that issue for further updates. I also expect the usual "patches welcome" applies here as well.
Lighttpd - Feature #2726: Support for HTTP/2 protocolhttps://redmine.lighttpd.net/issues/2726?journal_id=120242020-08-28T08:44:04Zgstrauss
