password protect directories
Added by crag0 over 14 years ago
I am trying to password protect a directory and having some trouble. I should mention I am a complete newbie. I have followed a tutorial on how to setup a password protected folder on http://www.cyberciti.biz/tips/lighttpd-setup-a-password-protected-directory-directories.html with no success. The only thing I have changed from the tutorial is i have placed things in my /home/ folder instead of a lighttpd user folder.
The one thing I have had success in getting the browser to ask for a password however once I enter the password i get a 404 page not found.
I am running
lighttpd/1.4.26 (ssl) - a light and fast webserver
Build-Date: Apr 6 2010 11:42:30
on ubuntu 10.04. I have tried on both IE and FF with the same problem.
I am expecting this is something obvious that I am missing because I am a newbie to forgive me for my lack of knowledge. Any help is appreciated.

There´s too little information here. We need some config snippets and alike to help you out. Maybe join #lighttpd at irc.freenode.net and report back to this thread if you got a solution there.
