Lighttpd returning HTTP status code -1

Added by over 14 years ago

Good morning all. I'm pretty new to lighttpd development, so my apologies if I'm missing something simple.

I have a system configured with lighttpd and fastCGI. My application waits on FCGX_Aceept_r(), processes the inbound request, then calls FCGX_Finish_r(). For this testing bit, I eliminated all the processing code and just do the Accept and Finish in a loop to catch inbound requests:

for (;;)
{
    FCGX_Request* l_pFCGIRequest = new FCGX_Request;
    FCGX_InitRequest(l_pFCGIRequest, 0, 0);

    l_iRc = FCGX_Accept_r(l_pFCGIRequest);

    if (l_iRc < 0)
    {
       break;
    }

    FCGX_Finish_r(l_pFCGIRequest);
}

I'm using WizTools.org REST client to send a RESTful command. The client is complaining that "Status code cannot be negative", so I did a Wireshark trace.

From client:

POST /DialogicWebService/contentgateway/v1/session/ HTTP/1.1
Content-Length: 429
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=UTF-8
Host: 146.152.86.13:82
Connection: Keep-Alive
User-Agent: Apache-HttpClient/4.0-beta2 (java 1.5)
Expect: 100-Continue

From server:

HTTP/1.1 100 Continue
Date: Tue, 19 Oct 2010 14:15:15 GMT
Server: lighttpd/1.5.0

From client:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<test>
</test>

From server:

HTTP/1.1 -1
Content-Length: 0
Date: Tue, 19 Oct 2010 14:24:12 GMT
Server: lighttpd/1.5.0

What's strange, is I can't change the status by writing out a "Status: 200 OK". It's like the headers are already written. When I do, it just gets appended as a payload:

HTTP/1.1 -1
Content-Length: 17
Date: Fri, 15 Oct 2010 21:06:00 GMT
Server: lighttpd/1.5.0

Status: 200 Ok

I have traced the problem to resp->status never being changed from its initialization value of -1. It gets copied into con -> http_status, which is then returned. I just don't understand why.

lighttpd version: 1.5.0
OS: Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server release 5.3 (Tikanga)
REST client: http://code.google.com/p/rest-client/

Any help is appreciated!

-Joe
