update lighttpd on Ubuntu
Added by glsarto over 16 years ago
hello All,
I installed Lighttpd 1.4.18 on a 7.10 Ubuntu server using the repositories.
I would like to update it to 1.4.20, but it says that's it's already last version.
Obviously the repositories are not up to date.
Is there a way out other than a manual install?

hi!
you can use the "Debian Etch Package (.deb) from 1.5.0 source" part from http://redmine.lighttpd.net/wiki/lighttpd/TutorialInstallation
this should work with ubuntu and lighttpd 1.4.20.
just be sure to replace 1.5.0 with 1.4.20 and use the right files
and don't forget to uninstall all old lighty intsallations
hope i helped

Doesn't Ubuntu provide security support for Lighttpd? I know Debian does.
That doesn't mean they'll include entire new versions in the stable branch though.

I think ubuntu does backport security updates.
You could also update your ubuntu to 8.10 (current version) or 8.04 (LTS version). They have newer versions of lighty.
