[Solved] Is Lighttpd dead? (=> no)

Added by blupp almost 9 years ago

Hello everyone,
wondering if there is still someone working on Lighttpd, because the last stable version appeared more than one year ago.
There are a lot of new developments in web techniques and I fear that sooner or later Lighttpd will not be usable, so I consider already to change to nginx.
Are there any plans for Lighttpd? Maybe you should consider to move your codebase to github, to attract new developers?
Or has the development of Lightty come to an end?

ok, shame on me, I didn't checked it. But there is really almost nothing going on. Lighttpd2 has no release etc.

It might not be dead, but I wouldn't exactly call it active.

The last release of 1.4.x is a year old. There were a number of features that were never included because there was supposed to be a version 1.5. I'm not really sure what ever happened to that. There's a version 2.0 that seems to be limping allow but there's no clear release plan. The community seems to have evaporated. I unfortunately relied on some community patches that were never accepted, for what ever reason, and that are no longer maintained.

At this point the only reasonable thing to do is switch to Nginx. There's active development and releases. The developers are helpful. There's an active mailing list.

I, for one, would like to see lighttpd move off of life support and to become more active. I've been trolling through the issue queue and posting patches on github (https://github.com/lighttpd/lighttpd1.4/pulls/). Suggestions and participation welcome. :)
